“I wanted to unfetter the body from the trappings of the technical prostheses of flight…and place the body in flight (in suspension) between the earth and oblivion (the sky) and all that can be out there.” Rosemary Laing [1] Rosemary Laing is an artist who has a strong international reputation and following. Her works capture elegant and often impossibly grand moments in time whilst subtlety referencing our involvement and role in the history of the land. They are beautifully staged and crafted so that the manipulations and interventions happen before the shot is taken not after. Herein lies the beauty of her vision. Her work is often seen as cinematic with it’s monumental and dramatic nature. In this contemplative work Laing captures the vast sweeping vista of the Blue Mountain ranges at dusk.  The bride figure is suspended against a dark brooding sky, her gown showing traces of blood. This work from 2002 follows on from the ‘flight research #5’ from the 1999-2000 series with a darker and more sombre energy. For anyone putting together a contemporary art collection an example of Laing’s work is an essential element.
